Happy New Year!

As many of you know, I am a “goal junkie”.  I have been setting my goals twice a year for the last oh 50 years!  I don’t have a goal sheet –I create a goal book.  And it is that time of the year.

Today is Sunday December 29th.  Jamie, Niccie and Cheryl are off to the North Shore.

WJJ is watching football –normally I join him.  However the Patriots are not being televised here in Hawaii and New Year’s Day in just 3 short days away so forget football –it’s time for my 2014 goals.

I have just showered and shampooed  and haven’t put on any makeup.  I have on a very plain long dress with no jewelry or shoes for that matter. Right there you must know, there is a reason to this madness.  When doing my goals, it is VERY important for me to feel centered, natural and grounded.

The book I choose to write my goals is critical to where I am and where I want to be.

I’ll often buy “nothing books” throughout the year.  Then when the goal time arrives, I literally look at each book, touch it, and make sure that it reflects who I am at this moment.

This year I’ve chosen a book by Thich Nhat Hanh a Vietnamese Zen Master. He is a teacher, scholar and peace activist who lectures throughout the world and writes on the practices of mindfulness and peaceful living.  The book has lessons by Hanh throughout it and also as illustrations by Adam Guan. Adam fluidly blends Eastern subjects and styles with a Western medium.  Further he incorporates elements from traditional Japanese and Chinese painting and still-life floral works.

What is fascinating is that I chose this book based on my feelings when I held the book.  Up until this very moment, I did not have a clue as to the enormity of Hanh’s teachings and the MANY books he wrote.  Further, I wrote my “umbrella goals” a few minutes ago –again before I researched  Hanh.   I think you will find it fascinating how compatible my goals are to the book in which I am writing.  Coincidence?  I don’t think so.

While I have never shared my goals with anyone —-for some reason –I feel it is important for me to at least reveal my “umbrella goals”

So here they are:

  •  I want to enjoy:
  1. The laughter of life.
  2. The love of family and friends
  3. The tranquility of being in the moment
  4. The passion of purpose
  5. The serenity of silence and solitude.
  6. The blessing of good health
  7.  The wisdom to embrace both abundance and austerity.

And to all who follow this blog,  in 2014 may I offer you my friendship in fun and my comfort in sadness.   May we all enjoy a year of health, joy and prosperity.

Happy New Year!
