EXPOSURE

I’m sure you all remember the live Super Bowl Broadcast in February of 2004, where during the halftime show Justin Timberlake “accidentally” exposed Janet Jackson’s breast (adorned with a nipple shield) for about half of a second.   It was classified as a “wardrobe malfunction.”  And it created quite the fury – with all kinds of fines and new laws put into place.

Then how about 1992 film Basic Instinct, where Sharon Stone uncrosses her legs during a police investigation exposing her pantiless choochilla. Everyone watched that scene over and over again just to get a glimpse of what they thought they saw.

And going further back, how about 1974 at the Oscars when David Niven was just about to introduce Elizabeth Taylor and a streaker ran across the stage –exposing well… everything.

The audience erupted into roaring laughter while Niven remained un-phased.  The distinguished British Actor deadpanned, “Well ladies and gentlemen that was almost bound to happen. But isn’t it fascinating to think that probably the only laugh that man will ever get in his life is by stripping and showing off his shortcomings?”

So with just a couple of examples (and there are many, many more), we can see that there is a fascination about exposing oneself in public.

Which brings me to the “meat” of this blog.  Hello Facebook. As many of you know, I am on Facebook fairly often. In fact, let’s see… UndercoverWear has a Facebook page, UndercoverWear Hawaii has a Facebook page, UndercoverWear STARS have a Facebook Page and Tiffany James has two Facebook pages. So, I write about “things” that pertain to different aspects of my life.

Having said that, I am shocked and disappointed in people who continually “expose” themselves on Facebook. Like you, I read rants, raves, ridiculous statements, political statements and posts on the most personal parts of a person’s life. I specifically remember reading a tirade from “a friend” about the wealthy.  Of course, I was going to remind this person that it was in fact a wealthy fellow who gave him his “big break.”

Then how about the Mother and Daughter who literally had a huge argument on Facebook, where the Daughter declared she “hated” her Mother. And the Mother responded that the Daughter was a lazy Bitch. Perfect.

There are of course the harmless posts like “let’s complain about winter”   from everyone on the Mainland. And the photo’s of children which are always cute (though Jamie will NOT allow me to post Niccie). And finally the “here’s what’s happening in my life” posts –like I’m changing my hair color –that’s me–guilty as charged.

Bottom line: When Janet exposed herself, the joke was that President Bush should establish a Department of Wardrobe Malfunction.  Based on the fact that our President loves big Government, perhaps he should establish a Department of Facebook Stupidity.  Freedom of speech –absolutely –Exposing your personal life –Dumb!
