A Fish Called Wanda….
A few months ago, our neighbors gave us a tiny fish and a fishbowl. Although many of you think I don’t like pets, truth be known, when I was about 8 years old I had a dog named “Bobo”. Unfortunately, my dog got out of our gate and I saw it get struck by a car and get killed.
Also, as a young child we had a cat. When the cat had liters, my “Yaya” (grandmother in Greek) would take the kittens and drown them in the Spicket River. Again, I was a witness to another horrific tragedy. So suffice it to say, I was very traumatized by those events.
So when our friends gave us a fish, I was tickled. I was finally ready for a pet. We named her Wanda. I became very fond of Wanda!. WJJ fed her and cleaned her fishbowl –of course he did. I, on the other hand, greeted her each morning with a smile and said “Good Night” to her each evening when I was off to bed.
A few weeks ago, our friend Tommy walked in and told us that Wanda was ill and that she had a fungus. He gave us our “To Do” list and WJJ DID it. Wanda appeared to be recovering nicely. I continued having my “little chats” with her. But in the last few days, Wanda became lethargic. She stopped eating and swimming around. Yes, I was truly concerned.
Tonight I found Wanda floating at the top of the fishbowl. Wanda had died. I cried.
I said a prayer for Wanda and thanked her for the joy she brought into my life –even for a few short months.
So what is my lesson? Even someone who only impacts our lives for a short period of time, can leave a lasting impression. Wanda, I do hope that you are healthy, happy and swimming in the nirvana seas of Heaven.
We miss you Wanda…..say “Hello” to Bobo
