Holiday Sanity: Tip #1

The floats have made their way through Manhattan, every city has lit its version of the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree, and Christmas carols are playing on the radio all day. It must be that wonderful time of the year!

Our husbands are going about their regular daily activities humming a carol or two. Our children and grandchildren have made not so subtle hints on EVERYTHING they want for Christmas. And our friends are celebrating the season with lots of social events.

It seems like everyone else is in the holiday spirit, while all you can think about is, “How the heck am I going to get everything done?”

I’m sure you already have lists, post-its and scraps of paper everywhere. Each day brings the realization that Christmas is only 23, 22, 21 days away. Every day there has to be something that can be accomplished.

For example, today my day was partly filled with Christmas must do’s. I pulled out the Christmas card list to update it, went online to take advantage of free shipping (a big deal in Hawaii), contacted my dear friend Dante to go over details for Christmas Eve dinner and started putting return address labels on our Christmas card envelopes. While doing this, I prepared for a UCW conference call, spoke to several of my Agents and stopped long enough to have yet another scoop of Greek stuffing. Real life doesn’t stop during the holiday season. Busy, busy, busy!

But I’m here as a friendly reminder that this is supposed to be the time of year to have fun, enjoy your friends and loved ones and of course, for Christians – a time to celebrate the birth of Christ. It is not the time to be so overwhelmed that you hear yourself saying, “I can’t wait until Christmas is over!” And while you have already read about my Triple V diet: vitamins, vodka, and valium, that is not really the solutions. (Although a little vodka won’t hurt!)

Over the next couple of weeks, I’m going to give you some of Tiffany’s Tips on how to avoid becoming the Wicked Witch of the West or the Bah Humbug Babe during this holiday season. Are you ready? Step one: Get organized. Yes my favorite!

Decide what is really important to you this holiday season. I live by my “OO” philosophy; Objective Oriented. Whatever I do in life, I stay focused on my goal/objective. For instance, this year my objective is to have everything done by December 18th. Why? My Assistant, Sarah, leaves that day for a month and Jamie, Cheryl and Niccie arrive on the 21st.  I refuse to be running around once they arrive. I want to spend time with Niccie!

Based on my objective, I better get my “dupa” in gear.

So let’s go over this again, your very 1st step is to make your list and write down everything that has to get done between now and January 4th. I can assure you, the list will be LONG! I’ll give you the next step when we chat again. Remember, if you don’t make the list, you’re on your own and more than likely you will be the Grinch Who Stole Christmas. So make that list!
